Re “Judge Unseals New Evidence in Jan. 6 Case” (front page, Oct. 3):

After the bombshell release of the special counsel Jack Smith’s filing, it’s even more important for American voters to understand that any candidate for any elective office anywhere in the land who can’t or won’t answer the simple yes/no question “Did Donald Trump lose the 2020 election?” with an unhesitating “yes” is unfit to serve in elective office.

Those candidates have shown themselves to be unable or unwilling to tell the difference between reality and fiction.

This still includes the Republican vice-presidential candidate, JD Vance, who wouldn’t answer the question in Tuesday’s debate; anyone running for the proverbial elected dogcatcher position; and of course the Republican presidential nominee.

To the Editor:

Former Vice President Mike Pence has already said he will not endorse Donald Trump for president in 2024. But after the newly released Jack Smith filing, Mr. Pence should take the next very necessary step: Endorse Kamala Harris.

Consider Mr. Trump’s “So what?” comment on Jan. 6, 2021, which he made when told of Mr. Pence’s perilous plight at the Capitol. It speaks volumes about what an ugly person Mr. Trump is. Moreover, Mr. Trump has already vowed vengeance against his opponents and enemies if re-elected — and those enemies probably include the man who he thinks betrayed him: Mike Pence.

For the protection of himself, his family and his country, and to be the patriot he believes himself to be, Mike Pence should actively and loudly endorse Kamala Harris for president.
