MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to resolving maritime issues through the rule of law and adherence to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) announced.

In a statement on Wednesday, the PCO said regional stability was a key topic in Marcos’ discussions with UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum during his one-day working visit to the country.

“President Marcos thanked the UAE for its acceptance and hospitality toward Filipinos, noting the warm reception fostered a deep personal bond between the Philippines and UAE,” the statement read.

“He also highlighted the government’s unwavering efforts to maintain peace and economic stability, which Sheikh Mohammed praised as a foundation for strengthening trade and investment ties between the two nations,” it added.

According to the PCO, Sheikh Mohammed expressed hope that Marcos’ visit would mark the beginning of a new chapter in the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Marcos arrived back in Manila from the UAE around 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
